EMDR
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing and is a powerful technique for helping people deal with stress, trauma, painful memories, and places in their lives where they are stuck.  Mary Jane has advanced training in EMDR and she is listed on the EMDR Institute website as a treatment provider.  Please visit  http://www.emdr.com/what-is-emdr/ for more information.

Mary Jane has also completed additional professional prerequisites through EMDR International Association and is a Certified Therapist in EMDR.

Stress Management
Learn tools to manage your stress physically and emotionally.  A variety of techniques are used, tailored to the lifestyle and temperament of the client, including relaxation, meditation, breathing techniques, and changing limited thinking patterns with cognitive behavioral therapy.

Development of Personal Skills
Assertiveness, Anger Management, Self-Expression and Active Listening are some of the skills that people may need to enrich their lives and reduce stress.

Professional Background

Mary Jane Murphy Gonzales completed her master’s degree in counseling from Georgia State University in 1993. She had experience working in two counseling centers and a rehabilitation hospital before starting her private practice in 2002.

Mary Jane also has training as a rehabilitation counselor. She helps people adjust after a life-changing event such as an accident, addiction recovery, loss of a loved one, divorce, mental or physical illness, job loss, or other life transitions.

VIRTUAL COUNSELING

Mary Jane has been doing all counseling virtually via phone and video screen since March 2020. Online counseling is done on a HIPPA compliant website. Clients choose whether they prefer a phone, screen, or a combination.

Ms. Murphy Gonzales moved to Virginia in late 2020 and has continued working with Georgia clients remotely, maintaining all Georgia credentials.

FORMS AND BILLING INFORMATION

Ms. Murphy Gonzales does not file insurance for clients but can offer paperwork for those clients who have out-of-network benefits and want to file for reimbursement. These details can be discussed during the initial phone consultation.

If a client is sure he or she wants to use traditional insurance with a copay, they should look for therapists who are on their insurance plan.
